What is a bath bomb, bath fizzy, or bath tablet?

What is a Bath Bomb,
Fizzie, or Bath Tablet?

A Bath Bomb is a fizzing treat for the tub -- consisting of a compacted combination of citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, and various other ingredients -- including tapioca or corn starch, Epsom or sea salts, milk powders, and either essential or fragrance oils. Once the bath bomb comes into contact with water, the citric acid and sodium bicarbonate release carbon dioxide into the water -- creating a fizzing, bubbling reaction.

By altering your formulations slightly, incorporating blends of fragrance and/or essential oils, soap-safe colorants, and other specialty ingredients, you can create a seemingly unlimited assortment of bath bombs!

Aside from the bubbling visual appeal of bath bombs, they offer a practical use as well. Many bath bombs are formulated with skin-softening oils such as grapeseed, coconut, apricot kernel and avocado oil; these oils, while included in relatively small amounts, result in big benefits in hydrating the skin. Alternately, you may wish to consider using vegetable butters such as shea, mango, or cocoa butter to achieve a similar result.
